Dalmatinski portal

Dalmatinski portal is one of the most widely read digital news portals in Dalmatia, and our students have the opportunity to create content for this platform, gaining real journalistic experience in the process.

We spoke with Mate Prlić, co-owner and co-founder, and Marketing Director of Dalmatinski portal. Prlić emphasizes that previous encounters with students from the Department of Communication and Media Studies (KIM) have left a very positive impression:

“They brought us refreshing youthful energy and a perspective from a different, younger angle. Most of our journalists and editors are older, so this new viewpoint is more than welcome,” says Prlić.

An important mentoring role is played by editors Ana Marasović and Antonija Pešin, who are available to students on a daily basis. They guide them through journalistic tasks, help shape ideas, and work with them throughout the entire creative process—from proposing a topic to achieving the final result.

Student assignments most often arise from current events and are primarily focused on creating video content for social media, which Prlić explains with a touch of humor:

“Realistically, they understand it much better than we older ones do.”

Afterwards, students transform the video materials into articles for the portal, simultaneously developing both multimedia and traditional journalistic skills.
The collaboration between Dalmatinski portal and the University of Split represents an important link between education and journalistic and media production, providing students with the opportunity to participate, already during their studies, in creating content followed daily by thousands of readers across Dalmatia.
