European Researchers' Night 2024 – Media Forensics

Goals

  • Cilj 4
  • Cilj 9
  • Cilj 11

Our Communication and Media study program participated for the first time this year in the European Researchers’ Night, which took place in Split at Prokurative Square on Friday, September 27, from 5 PM to 10 PM.

The European Researchers’ Night is the central activity of the project Reconnecting Science with the Blue Society (Blue-connect 2.0), aimed at reconnecting science and society by bringing research and researchers closer to the public, strengthening the visibility of science in the public eye and research education, and building trust and understanding of science and its impact on society.

European Researchers’ Night is a public and media event designed to popularize science and promote research careers, primarily targeting youth and their families. Its goal is to attract citizens of all education levels, with a special focus on children and young people—especially those who, unfortunately, have limited access to science and research and are therefore less likely to engage in research activities.

Among the many units of the University of Split, our study program also presented itself to the public, and we prepared an interactive activity called Media Forensics for visitors. Together with children, school students, university students, and adults, we analyzed media texts and headlines through prepared examples and quizzes. Through this, we educated them on how to critically evaluate media content and highlighted the common issues present in the journalism scene. The most successful participants were rewarded with tickets to this year’s PR conference KOMferencija, which the Croatian Public Relations Association (HUOJ) is organizing again in Split. We thank HUOJ for partnering with us at the European Researchers’ Night!
