Homelessness is a social issue that is not talked about enough, even though around two thousand people in Croatia live without a permanent home — on the streets, in shelters, or in abandoned buildings. The causes are numerous: wages that are too low, unemployment, lack of affordable housing, and a general absence of systemic support.
Since 1995, the MoSt Association in Split has been providing continuous assistance to the homeless through shelter, psychosocial support, education, help with obtaining personal documents, and other services. Their Homeless Center, located at 22 Gundulićeva Street, can accommodate up to 35 users.

The Humane Heart of the University of Split is a humanitarian initiative that has been running since 2016, focused on preparing and distributing meals for the homeless in collaboration with the MoSt Association. The action takes place every Wednesday, involving all departments of the University of Split. On April 3rd, 2024, it was the turn of the Communication and Media Studies program.

The food was prepared at the "Indeks" restaurant of the Student Center, and the distribution took place at the Homeless Center. Dinner service began at 7 PM, with participation from professors Viktorija Car and Jelena Jurišić, along with female students of the Communication and Media program. This Wednesday's menu included cream of mushroom soup, breaded chicken breast, mashed potatoes, salad, and an orange for dessert

Actions like these remind us to always be grateful for everything we have, and emphasize the importance of helping those who do not share the same privilege. We hope for a future without socially excluded individuals, and while that future is still being built, we continue to do all we can to support them — because no one, absolutely no one, deserves to live on the margins of society.
