The second day of the Days of Communication and Media Split 2024 conference was dedicated to mobile journalism

Ivica Grudiček, a journalist from HRT, opened the day with a lecture on one of the key topics of this year’s conference: Mobile Journalism - New Era of News Reporting.
In the morning session, two panels took place featuring guests and collaborators from 11 European universities. The first panel, moderated by Gheorghe Anghel from the University of Bucharest, titled Regional Perspectives in Mobile Journalism, included six presentations:

  • Hungarian Perspective on Mobile Journalism: Training, Usage, and Attitudes
  • Mobile Journalism in Bulgaria - a Developing Story
  • Click. Capture. Connect: Unveiling the Practice of Mobile Journalism in Romania
  • Mobile Journalism in Serbia: Another Tool for Sharing Stories
  • Mobile Journalism in Slovakia: Amateurism vs Professionalism
  • Mobile Journalism in Circumstances of Russian-Ukrainian War: Challenges and Perspectives
The second panel, Adapting to Change: Experiences in Mobile Journalism Education and Practice, covered topics such as:
  • Mobile Journalism in Greece: Practice and Education
  • Mapping Mobile Journalism in Croatia
  • Self-Educated: Understanding Mobile Journalism Education and Practice in Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Self-care: How Latvian Journalists and Students Educate Themselves in the Multimedia World
  • Mobile Journalism in Albania - How Newsrooms and Journalists Are Adapting to the Change.

Parallel to the panels, the workshop EU VS. DISINFO: REGULATING BIG TECH AHEAD OF #EE2024 was held. Andrea Čović Vidović and Carmen Gruber from the European Commission Representation in Croatia educated students about the concept of disinformation and the fight against it, especially in the context of the upcoming European Parliament elections. They highlighted numerous methods and actions undertaken by the European Union to combat the problem of disinformation. Through independent analysis of social media, students applied what they learned in practice.


In the afternoon, a panel on Contemporary Trends in Newsrooms began, presenting key trends in journalism with an emphasis on the role of mobile journalism.
Petra Kovačević opened the panel with her presentation Reporting from a Different Perspective: What is Solutions Journalism?, explaining the concept of solutions journalism.
Next, Professor Tena Perišin presented Young Audience Wants More: Creating and Testing Innovative Storytelling Techniques, offering insights into young people’s perspectives and desires in media and journalism.

Miroslav Ivić from Slobodna Dalmacija analyzed the development and changes in journalism over time in his talk How to Use New Formats and Types of Journalism to Come Closer to the Language of the Audience?

Mate Prlić from Dalmatinski Portal continued Miroslav Ivić’s topic with his presentation How Have Mobile Phones Changed (Local) Journalism?, explaining the current situation at local portals and discussing the advantages and disadvantages of mobile journalism.

The panel concluded with Vesna Vujević, editor at Radio Kampus, presenting What Does a Radio Even Look Like?, and Silvija Turić from Radio Dalmacija with The Friendship of Radio and Smartphones?, both focusing on radio as a medium and explaining the benefits of smartphone usage in today’s world.

 
The second day of the conference concluded with a roundtable discussion on mobile journalism featuring industry representatives. Silvija Turić, Laura Visković, Ivica Grudiček, and Dejan Oblak discussed how mobile journalism is transforming the profession, as well as the role of today’s audience in creating media content.
Throughout the day, the Mobile Journalism Storytelling workshop was also held, led by Professor Tena Perišin and Dejan Oblak. During the workshop, students learned the basics of video journalism, got acquainted with MoJo equipment, and filmed MoJo stories out in the field.
