On May 23rd, students from the University of Georgia (USA) visited our Communication and Media Studies program as part of their Study Abroad program. These journalism, media, communication, and public relations students are visiting Croatia to gain insight into European approaches to media regulation. So far, their journey has taken them through Zagreb and Split, and they are continuing on to Dubrovnik.
Our professor Viktorija Car held a lecture titled “The Role of Public Service Media in Europe in the Era of Information Crisis”, focusing on disinformation and the broader information crisis. The presentation included numerous examples of how falsehoods spread online. A particularly engaging topic was the comparison between American and European models of public information systems.
The lecture was also attended by first-year Communication and Media students: Sofia Bešlić, Magdalena Patrlj, Magdalena Šimera, and Nina Kotarac. They used the opportunity to chat with their American peers, share experiences, and compare student life in Croatia and the U.S.
While Sofia Bešlić worked behind the camera to capture the best shots for our gallery, Magdalena Šimera and Magdalena Patrlj gathered impressions from the American students and spoke with their professor, Ivanka Pješivac, about the University of Georgia's Study Abroad program. You can hear all about their visit in our Radio Kampus segment!
Despite the rain, we truly enjoyed this gathering. Engaging questions and lively discussion made the time fly by. Enriched with new acquaintances and valuable experiences, today's visit proved that learning doesn't happen only through books, but also through real-life encounters, dialogue, and openness to different perspectives.
We hope to continue this collaboration with the University of Georgia, wish them the best of luck on the rest of their journey, and look forward to meeting again!
