On Tuesday, May 13th, in the ceremonial hall of the Senate of the University "Don Frane Bulić", cooperation agreements were signed between the University of Split and several prominent media organizations from Split and the Dalmatian region. This event marks the beginning of a new chapter for our graduate program Journalism in Contemporary Media, which is set to welcome its first generation of students this fall.
We are proud and excited to highlight this collaboration, which goes beyond formality and represents a genuine partnership that offers our students direct access to real newsroom environments. With 480 hours of professional internship, students will have the opportunity to learn on the ground, side by side with seasoned media professionals.
In addition to the University’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Dragan Ljutić, and the program’s head, Prof. Dr. Viktorija Car, the agreements were signed by representatives of the region’s leading media outlets: Slobodna Dalmacija, Dalmatinski portal, Radio Dalmacija, Radio Sunce, TV Dalmacija, TV Jadran, HNK Hajduk (Hajduk Digital TV), and Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT). Internship opportunities will also be available in university media platforms, including Radio Kampus and the Universitas newspaper.
Rector Ljutić emphasized that the idea for launching this program came directly from students themselves, making the initiative even more meaningful. Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Nikola Koceić-Bilan noted that such a program has long been needed in Split and Dalmatia, given the region’s strong journalistic tradition. He also pointed out that the undergraduate program Communication and Media is already among the most sought-after in Croatia, and interest in the graduate program confirms that we are on the right track.
Prof. Dr. Viktorija Car thanked all media partners for recognizing the importance of applied learning, stating that students must write, film, edit, and create content in real editorial conditions. The high number of internship hours, she explained, is not accidental but a strategic decision.
In an emotional address, lecturer Miroslav Ivić said the new program would educate a generation of journalists ready for the challenges of the digital and multimedia era. He added that without the richness and diversity of Split's and Dalmatia’s media landscape, such a program would not be possible.
Speaking on behalf of the media partners, Vinko Ursić Glavanović from Slobodna Dalmacija stressed that quality journalism begins with quality education and expressed his confidence in the successful synergy between academia and journalistic practice.
This event is not just a formal signing — it marks the beginning of a strong, valuable, and long-term cooperation, enabling students to turn knowledge into real-world experience and grow into true professionals.
